- Where possible, try to leverage existing skills, intellectual property & code.
- Examine the big picture: licensing costs, development cost, development time frames, maintenance costs, stability & reliability, sustainability
- Open Source technologies are great, but can sometimes incur increased development & support expenses which far outweigh the decreased licensing expenses. Evaluate the benefits carefully, don't just assume Open Surce is cheaper/better.
