Aquaculture Designer (AcD) is a proposed software tool for complete assessment, feasibility, financial planning and plant design for land based freshwater (and saline) finfish & crustacea farms.

AcD would assist fish farmers, micro-entrepreneurs, consultants, academics, NGOs, government officers etc to design and plan commercially and environmentally sustainable fish farms by offering best aquaculture science and best aquaculture practice packaged into an intuitive and easy to use, regionally tailored, local language, decision support and planning software tool. AcD predominantly is focussed towards rural areas of developing countries, though it also may have some application in developed countries. The software tool would be deployed simultaneously in a web based version as well as a desktop version and be available as a free software download..

Aquaculture Designer Features:

Site Assessment: A guided questionnaire style sequential form to assess various essential site related factors such as; water quality, salinity, pollutants, temperature, waste disposal options etc.

Species Selection: Species Selection based on a number of key factors such as suitability to site conditions, local markets, cultural/social preferences, government regulations etc.

Plant and Equipment Design: Detailed design of earth works, tanks, piping, filtration and aeration systems etc using an intuitive combination of form based data entry plus 2D drawing and 3D mapping capabilities. The user would select required materials and equipment from a generic product and equipment database which would automatically account to the materials/equipment list as well as project financials.

Education: Effortlessly educates the software user by offering relevant inline tutorials covering aquaculture science, measurement, testing and assessment methodologies, best aquaculture practice, glossary, species guide etc.

Financials: Detailed and comprehensive financial spreadsheet for setup expenses, recurring expenses and incomes. The Financial screens would wrap up many user input and calculated values input elsewhere through the application. Scenario modelling and bayesian risk modelling may be support in later versions of the software.

Reporting: A main report screen would wrap up and display the key fish farm indicators through text, numbers, datagrids, charts maps etc.
